In the morning of Oct.9th, the 100th Anniversary Ceremony of the School of Physics of Nankai University was held in the small auditorium of the main building at Balitai Campus.
Academician Zhang Jie, the president of the Chinese Physical Society, academician Gao Yuanning, the dean of the School of Physics of Peking University, academician Duan Wenhui, the director of the physics department of Tsinghua University, academician Fang Zhong, the director of the Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician Cai Ronggen, the director of the Institute for Theoretical Physics form Chinese Academy of Sciences, Bu Xianhe, the dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Nankai University, along with other academicians, attended the ceremony.
Yang Qingshan, the secretary of the party committee of Nankai University, Xu Jingjun,the executive vice president of Nankai University, Yang Kexin, the executive vice secretary of the party committee of Nankai University, Weng Xinguang, the former vice president of Nankai University, Zhang Bowei, the president assistant of Nankai University, Wang Yongsheng, the president and the vice secretary of the party committee of Beijing Information Science & Technology University, Luo Yan’an, the deputy director of Tianjin Municipal Commission of Education, Sun Qian, the general secretary of American and European Oversea Students Association of Tianjin, Liu Yifang, the president of the Alumni Association of the School of Physics and other graduates of the School of Physics also attended the ceremony.
The anniversary ceremony has been held both online and offline with representatives from 38 universities and institutes in China, the representatives of offspring of great physicists in the history of the School of Physics of Nankai University, the representatives of senior comrades, senior teachers and graduates of the university, and the heads of the units of Nankai University, and the representatives of teachers and students of the university.
Shi Yonghong, the secretary of the party committee of the School of Physics of Nankai University hosted the conference, during which Yang Qingshan, the secretary of the party committee of Nankai University, and Xu Jingjun, the executive vice president of Nankai University, delivered speeches separately; Zhang Guoquan, the dean of the School of Physics, reviewed the development of the School of Physics over the past century; academician Zhang Jie, academician Gao Yuanning, academician Duan Wenhui, and academician Fang Zhong delivered speeches respectively; Liu Yifang, Zhang Wenzhong, Zhou Haibing, Zhou Da, Li Zhongze, An Hongjun, Han Tao and Ge Yi, alumni representatives of Nankai University, delivered speeches respectively；Hu Yi, the professor of the School of Physics of Nankai University, and Xu Tianyi, a 2019 undergraduate student, spoke as the representatives of teachers and students respectively.
The anniversary ceremony of the School of Physics of NankaiUniversity was widely supported by the fellow alumni who has been paying active attention to the activity. During the commemoration, the donation ceremony celebrating the centenary of the School of Physics was held. Liu Yifang donated 3 million RMB, Ge Yi and Ren Xiaoqian couple donated 3 million RMB, anonymous alumni donated 3 million RMB, Zhang Jianjun and Li Ruijie jointly donated 1 million RMB. The alumni and people from all walks of life who care about the development of Nankai contributed to the development of the discipline through the public fundraising platform to raise a fund of 2 million RMB, anonymous alumni donated 100,000 RMB, Changers (Beijing) Education Technology Co., LTD donated 100,000 RMB to jointly establish the Development Fund of the School of Physics of Nankai University, which is used to support the development and construction, academic research, talent cultivation, student training, and other related work of the School of Physics; Liu Daozhi and Zhang Zhongmin couple donated 500,000 RMB to set up Zhongdao Scholarship for the School of Physics of Nankai University; Huiyouge (Tianjin) Cultural Communication Co., LTD and Chongqing Yujing Technology Co., LTD jointly donated the first 100 sets of Qinglian Purple sapphire and gemstone cultural products developed by professor Sun Jun of the School of Physics; Tianjin Jiashi Technology Development Co., LTD donated the supplies for the conference. Luo Yan 'an, Zhang Bowei, and Zhang Guoquan jointly launched the Physics Discipline Development Fund of Nankai University during the ceremony.
Founded in 1922, the physics department of Nankai University is one of the earliest established physics departments among Chinese colleges and universities. Over the past century, the School of Physics of Nankai University has undergone a series of major changes, including the collaborative founding of the Southwest Associated University, moving the university from Yunnan back to Tianjin, the adjustments of colleges and departments nationwide. With the efforts of the faculty and students of the School of Physics of Nankai University, the school has brought together a group of leading scholars at home and abroad and developed into a significant science research center and a key talent development base for the cultivation of comprehensive high-level talents with profound general knowledge and broad professional knowledge landscape, thus meeting the need of the social development and modernization of China.
It is acknowledged that the School of Physics of Nankai University has been making concerted efforts to summarize its achievements in the past century, better carry forward the fine traditions of the school, and further strive for the brilliance of the school in the next century. With this 100th anniversary ceremony at its core, the School of Physics of Nankai University will carry out a series of academic and cultural activities including great lectures of Rao Yutai, “Kaiwu” lectures on frontiers of physics, alumni forum of the School of Physics, broadcasts of promotional videos for the centenary achievements of the School of Physics of Nankai University, cloud platforms for alumnus communication, and stamp albums commemorating the centenary of the School of Physics under the principle of simplicity, pragmatism and sustainable development. By doing so, the school would be able to propagate its achievements over the past century, foster academic exchanges of physics and accelerate the development of the top discipline of physics.
